Long story short- I was scheduled to have a c-section on Saturday, October 13, but the girls decided they weren't going to wait any longer. On Tuesday night I woke around 12:30 (Wednesday morning) having regular contractions 10 minutes apart. I waited until about 7 am and called the doc. The kids went to school and Joe and I went to the hospital. We went to OB triage and got hooked up to the monitors. The nurse checked my cervix and I was between a 2-3 and officially in labor, so they scheduled us for a 12 pm c-section. The surgery went well, with about 12 doctors and nurses for the 3 of us. It was a little crowded, but we were all taken care of.
Madelyn managed to push her way to the number one spot and became Baby A
Madelyn Lee, born at 12:36 pm 3 lbs, 12 oz and 17 1/4 inches
Abigail Louise, born at 12:37 pm, 4 lbs, 8 oz 17 3/4 inches
We didn't get any pictures from the delivery room, but these are right when they got into the NICU and I was still in recovery.

The hospital stay was busy (never a moment to ourselves, even without visitors) and visits to the NICU were very emotional, so picture taking wasn't the top priority for me. When the doc came in on Friday morning and asked if I was ready to go home, I was really caught off guard. I wasn't expecting to go home until Saturday morning. Of course I wanted to go home and of course I knew that I wouldn't be taking the babies, so it was pretty hard. Coming home to my big babies was wonderful and we are just taking things one day at a time.
We had a great visit today and got some good pictures. Whenever we visited during our hospital stay, I was the only one to hold the babies (and only a few times at that), so today was Joe's first time to hold both girls :)
It's a good thing we have these caps from Ms. Skeeters in order to keep the girls straight!

I was trying to get the nurse to zoom in on just the babies faces together, but clearly she is a better nurse than photographer :)

Poor Abigail didn't want to go back.
So here is the low down on the NICU stay. Both girls are under light for jaundice. Very mild, but needing lights. They will stay in the incubators until they can maintain their body temps and once they can do that they will be in open cribs. Once we regulate temps and are done with lights, we will just be working on sucking so that they can feed on their own and get rid of the feeding tubes and work on gaining weight and filling up those stinky diapers.
We are so blessed and can't wait to have these sweet girls home. I, for one, am ready for the chaos :)

They are beautiful! This whole thing, this whole story and their precious lives, just a beautiful thing! Thank you so much for so many pictures! Praying for some weight gain and lots of thriving so they can come home to their loving family!
Such beautiful girls!!! I love all of the pictures of you and Joe holding each of them - you both look so happy! The monogrammed hats are adorable - and very convenient for identical twins :) Can't wait to meet your sweet babies!!
