Bye Bye, Baby

While on vacation in Florida, something very traumatic happened...we lost Baby. We went to the Naval Aviation Museum and in the mist of the chaos, she got left behind. We didn't notice until that night because we had bought her the Blue Angel model plane and she held onto that forever. I called the museum 5 times the next day only to get a recording. The first night without her was hard. Izzie woke up 3-4 times in the night calling for her. We told her the truth: that Baby got to stay with the Blue Angel and was riding in the airplanes. She was concerned that Baby was sad, but I reassured her that Baby was having so much fun in the airplanes. She asked about her at nap time and bedtime for the next 5 days or so, and still asks about her occasionally, but I ask her if she remembers where Baby is and she tells me "Baby in airplane with the Blue Angels. Baby happy." And then she is fine. Now, of course we do have a back up Baby in our closet, but you see the key to Izzie's thumb sucking is that Baby. So in a effort to stop the thumb sucking, we haven't replaced Baby. I went through some serious guilty about it because I know how much Izzie loves that Baby doll :( And at first she really wasn't sucking her thumb at all, but as the days pass, she seems to do it more and more. But I would say that about 75% of her thumb sucking is gone, simply with the absence of Baby, so I guess that it still an improvement.

Below is a montage that I put together in memory of Baby Bass. She was a beloved member of our family and will be remembered in our hearts always.
